An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a man, Wisdom Nwanogu, for allegedly stealing N100, 000 and for unlawful possession of two guns.
The Magistrate, Mrs Ejiro Kubeinje, who did not take Nwanogu’s plea, directed the police to send the case file to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Kubeinje ordered that the defendant should be kept in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, pending the DPP’s advice.
She adjourned the case until Sept. 21 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP. Bisi Ogunleye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some others still at large on April 21 at 9 p.m. at Ajah, Lagos.
Ogunleye said that the defendant robbed one Olajide Moshood of N100, 000 at gun point.
“The defendant was later arrested and when searched, two guns were found in his possession,” the prosecutor said.
Ogunleye said that the offences contravened Sections 296, 297 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports Section 297 attracts 21 years imprisonment for armed robbery while Section 411 stipulates two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
