An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Thursday ordered that a 19-year-old man, Murtala Abubakar, be remanded in a Correctional Centre for allegedly attempting to steal a cell phone.
The police charged Abubakar, who resides in Angwan Dodo, Gwagwalada Abuja, with criminal conspiracy, causing hurt and attempt to commit offence of theft.
The Judge, Sani Umar ordered that the defendant be remanded in Correctional Centre following the application of the Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko that the defendant be remanded since the victim was still on admission in the hospital.
Umar adjourned the case until April 13 for hearing.
Earlier, Tanko had told the court that the complainant Ahmedu Sunday of Zaria-Kano Park reported the matter at the police station on March 28.
He said that on the same day, the complainant was returning from work when the defendant conspired with his friend now at large to snatch his Tecno cell phone.
He said that in the process, the defendant stabbed the complainant on his back with a knife, adding that the complainant sustained serious injury.
Tanko said that the complainant was rushed to Rosa Haskey Hospital and was currently on admission.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97, 248 and 95 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
