An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Monday, remanded a 20-year-old man, Amubieya Timileyin, for alleged N2.5 million fraud.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov 18, at about 4:41 p.m., at Aba Iya-Gani area, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendant obtained the sum of N2.5m from one Akinrodoye Olakunle on the pretense of selling a Lexus 350 LR car to the complainant, but failed to do so and instead converted the money to his own use.
According to him, the offence contravened some sections of the Criminal Code and Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Sunday Olagbaju, applied for the bail for the defendant in the most liberal term, pledging that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.
The Magistrate, Mr A. A. Adebayo, declined not grant the bail of the defendant, he asked the defence counsel to come up with a written application.
Adebayo ordered for the remand of the defendant at the Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional centre and adjourned the case until Dec 10, for hearing.
