A Magistrates’ Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Tuesday remanded two men in Iyaganku Police Area Command cell, for alleged unlawful possession of locally made guns and threat to life.
The suspects, Onifade Yemi, 30, and Biola Olalekan, 32, whose house addresses were not given, were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful possession of locally made gun and threat to life .
The Magistrate, Mrs Ibukun Osho, refused to take the plea of the defendants and ordered they be remanded, pending the advice of the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution ( DPP).
Osho asked the Prosecutor, Insp Foluke Adedosu, to duplicate the case file for onward delivery to the DPP for his advice, and adjourned the matter until Oct. 6 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor had told the court that the defendants and others at large, conspired and threatened the lives of innocent people and to unleash violence on them.
Adedosu said: “The duo of Onifade and Olalekan, on July 28, allegedly threatened the life of one Ismaila Olorungbebe with a locally made single-barrelled gun loaded with catridges.
“The defendants also unlawfully had in their possession two locally made single-barrelled guns and three live catridges.”
She said the defendants committed the offences at about 2 p.m. in Okeseyin village, via Idi- Ayunre, Ibadan.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 86 and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
She added that they were punishable under Section 27 of the Firearms Act Cap F 28 Vol. 7 Law of the Federation, 2004.
