An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, has convicted a 19-year-old labourer, Tijani Abdullahi of stealing milling machine coils, but deferred sentencing to Jan. 25.
The police had charged Abdullahi and two others Abdulsalam Abubakar and Yasir Adamu, now at large, all residents of transitional market Kuje, FCT with Joint act and theft.
The Judge, Malam Abdulkarim Abdullahi convicted Abdullahi for the offence of theft after he pleaded guilty and ordered that the convict be remanded in prison custody until Jan. 25.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Shuaibu Yusuf of Kuyigbi village, Kuje Abuja reported the matter at Kuje police station on Jan. 7.
Tanko explained that the defendant was arrested for stealing three milling machine coils, one scale and some cable wires valued at N1.490 million.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.
He prayed the court to take into consideration that the convict was an habitual offender.
The defendant pleaded guilty.
