Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has said that Kai Havertz’s UEFA Champions League experience at Chelsea was one of the major reasons behind the Gunners signing him from Chelsea in the summer.
Artea also said he wants the Germany international to improve Arsenal’s squad.
Arsenal had spent £65 million on Havertz, who, despite playing as a centre-forward, scored nine goals in 47 games for Chelsea last season.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Sevilla on Tuesday at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, Arteta said (via Football.London): “Well, that is certainly one of the reasons.
“His quality and the number of things he’s done already in his career. And then to improve the starting XI.”
Havertz scored six goals and provided two assists in 39 UEFA Champions League games before his move to Arsenal.
