Burkina Faso To Form New Rapid Response Force
By Juliet Vincent
Burkina Faso’s military regime is forming new rapid response forces, including 14,000 soldiers and thousands of civilian support staff, to combat jihadist violence, DW Africa reports.
The country has experienced numerous Islamist attacks in the last 10 years, resulting in the deaths of around 26,000 soldiers and civilians.
Rapid intervention battalions and civilian defense volunteers have been accused of abuses against civilians, including earlier this week in western Burkina Faso.
The violence has forced over two million people to flee their homes. (DW Africa)
