Former General-Manager, R2 FM Radio, Ibadan, Gwendolyn Oshoniyi, has urged Nigerians to always pay close attention to their mental health.
She said on Sunday in Ibadan that it was important to avoid depression because once it consumes, it is likely to leave the victim paralysed.
According to her, it can also cause immobility, inability to think, assimilate or chart the right path.
To cope with depression, the media consultant said that people need to get out of any form of toxicity, whether in a work place or in a relationship.
Ms Oshoniyi said that bottling up of issues, rather than always finding someone to talk to results in pent-up emotions which could lead to anger, anxiety, depression and aggression, which could lead to mental illness, ulcer and high blood pressure.
She said, “Strategies to kick out depression include listening to music and messages that uplift, reading books, attending conferences, workshops and by investing in prayers.”
Ms Oshoniyi was speaking during the launch of her book, titled: “Naked and Squared, Surviving Depression: A Media Girl’s Perspective,”
The event also featured a symposium, comments and contributions from media personalities, life transformational strategists, mental health experts, religious leaders among others.
