Illegal possession of arms and ammunition seems to have increased in recent time in parts of the country thereby worsening the insecurity faced by the citizens.
A teenager, one Ibrahim on the early hours of Wednesday was nabbed by a vigilante group in Gombe at Baure area of the state with an Ak 47 gun.
According to our source, he was arrested after a tipoff from good samaritans who became scared and suspicious of the boy holding the gun at such odd hour.
The source said that the boy was handed over to the police by the vigilante group.
The source also claimed that the boy was not a thief but a nomad.
As at the time of filing in this report, there was no yet an official information from the police on the arrest.
Daylight Reporters observed that people in parts of the nation continue to access guns despite the border closure imposed by the federal government.
Activities by bandits and kidnappers have increased tremendously in the north especially in the north western states and operated with impunity even as the north east grapples with the Boko Haram terrorists.
Meanwhile, efforts made by Daylight Reporters to speak to the Police on the issue proved abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gombe state Command, Mary Malum never return calls or reply text message sent to her.
