…Police Calls For Vigilance
Bauchi State Police Command has paraded a suspected killer of two men in Gamawa local government area of the state.
According to the Bauchi State Police Command’s Spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil the incidence was reported at Gamawa Divisional Police Headquarters about one month ago by Adamu Mohammed, a resident of Taranka village, Gamawa local government areas of the state.
According to him, the two persons, Kabiru Idi and Bato Ali of the same address were reported missing about one month ago.
The suspect, Ibrahim Umar of Dankunkuru village Ungogo LGA Kano State, who came to Taranka village for charcoal business was suspected to have perfected the abduction and subsequent disappearance the two persons, whom he allegedly gruesome killed and buried in shallow graves.
SP Wakili said, on receipt of the report, a team of detectives were quickly drafted to and eventually arrested the suspect.
He added, “During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have killed and buried the two casual workers in a shallow grave around the outskirts of the town, consequently, the requisite coroner’s form was filled and the bodies were exhumed from the said grave for discreet Investigation.
“These bodies were established to be those of the missing persons and are certified death by the medical practitioner.
“Thereafter, the Command has handed over the corpses to the relatives for burial according to their respective religious rites”.
According to the police Spokesperson, further investigation uncovered that, the accused killed the two persons for money ritual.
He added, “During search at the suspect’s residence, one rubber gallon containing liquid substances suspected to be Human blood was recovered from the accused residence.
He said, investigation is still in progress to uncover the mystery behind the killings.
However, in a video of the suspect speaking to journalists, the suspect denied the allegations saying that, he was with another person when they discovered a severed human hand floating on water an they retrieved it.
But, his claim was punctured when the person who reported the incidence to the police, Adamu Mohammed said, the suspect told him that he killed one of the persons because he was owing him money and killed the second person the night he stole some money from him.
According to him, the suspect told him about what he has done while they were on their way to their village.
He said, “We were walking together when he told me. He was holding an Axe and a Cutlasss, so when he told me, I cleverly collected the Axe and kept my distance until we arrive. I later reported what happened to some people and later to the police”.
A parent of one of the victims who also spoke to journalists in the video said, he immediately recognised his son’s hand when it was exhumed by the police and medical personnel.
He said, “I recognised my son’s hand because the fingers were bent as a result of an injury he had which kept him at home for a while. He went to work when he recovered but he was killed and buried by the suspect”.
The police Spokesperson said, the Command commiserates and condoles with the family of the victim, may Allah (S.W.A) give them strength and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
He added, “The Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command CP Auwal Musa Muhammad psc, has described the act as ferocious and inimical to the law governing our dear country and warned Bauchi State indigenes that such acts under his stewardship will not be tolerated.
“He explicitly condemned the ruthless and gruesome killing of the two innocent and very hardworking citizens of the state and assured of his resoluteness and commitment to ensure that justice takes its course in this matter.
“While assuring that the general public will continue to be updated as the Investigation unfolds, we would like to use this medium to reiterate the need for parents and guardians to maintain strict vigilance of the activities of their wards.
“It is pertinent now more than ever that the whereabouts of wards and the company they keep are constantly kept in check by all those responsible.
“Community leaders, elders and authoritative persons should also ensure to keep an eye on happenings within their environment and ensure the needed intervention before situations degenerate”.
