Breaking: FMC Jalingo Confirms Cases Of Lassa Fever In Taraba

The management of the Taraba State Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo has confirmed cases of the viral haemorrhagic fever (Lassa fever) at the hospital.
The head of clinical services at the centre, Kuni Joseph Tuesday said 14 out of 33 individuals that were tested positive in the last three months lost their lives.
Speaking to DAYLIGHT REPORTERS on the telephone, Mr Joseph said six persons lost their lives between last Wednesday to date in a fresh cases of Lasser fever in the State.
According to Joseph, the hospital recorded a total of 84 suspected cases of Lasser fever between October 24, to date out of which 33 persons were confirmed positive
He said nine persons out of the 33 were treated and discharged , while 6 patients are still on admission in the hospital.
“The 33 cases recorded in Taraba between October 24, 2024 to date were overwhelming and the first of its kind in Taraba State,” he noted.
Joseph disclosed that there were no referral cases because the institution is equipped with all the necessary facilities for the treatment of the disease.
Joseph said the medical team of the centre and the state ministry of health, including officials from World Health Organisation (WHO) have held series of meetings with the view to finding possible ways to confront the disease.
