Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauch State and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman, face impeachment as crisis rocks the Assembly over the inability of majority of the members to secure visa for this year’s Hajj.
All the 31 members of the legislature were allocated seats for the pilgrimage, but only seven out of them actually secured the Saudi visa for the trip, leaving the majority 24 deeply aggrieved by the impending inability to perform the Hajj due to lack of the visa.
Daylight Reporters impeccably gathered that the grief of this majority was deepened by the indifference shown by the principal officers of the legislature – Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the Majority and Minority Leaders, who were among the lucky seven who secured the visa, flew to the Holy Land, leaving them to their fate, totally confused and abandoned.
Consequently, Daylight Reporters gathered further, 22 out of the 24 aggrieved members called a press conference, Friday, 1st July, calling on the principal officers to resign or get impeached.
“The case has worsened now to the point of the governor himself facing impeachment,” an anonymous authoritative source told Daylight Reporters on phone, disclosing further, “Already the sad 22 have signed the impeachment notice, and were to converge at the Assembly today, Monday, 4th July, to perfect the Impeachment plan.”
He continued: “However, Sunday (3rd July) night, hoodlums stormed the House of Assembly and set it ablaze; but the fire was immediately put off, the House was sealed and security agents immediately deployed there.”
The source said following their inability to gain access to the House to perfect the Impeachment plan, the 22 moved to one of the guest houses of the House to hold their meeting, today, Monday, 4th July.
“However, while they were meeting there, hoodlums stormed the guest house, chased them out of there and destroyed some properties,” the source said.
Neither the state government not security agencies had issued any statement on the incident as at reporting time.
