The Akwa Ibom State Police community has been thrown into mourning following the dead of the Police Commissioner, Waheed Ayilara.
Ayilara, a source who spoke under anonymity said, the police Corp died in the morning hours of Thursday August 29, 2024 after undergoing prostrate cancer surgery at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital yesterday.
“We very sad to inform you that, our friend, brother and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara is dead,” a family source said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Timfon John when contacted on the telephone said, she would call back.
Meanwhile, the State Government is yet to issue condolences to that effect but, the late CP succeeded former CP Durosimi Olatoye, and assumed duty in the state before May 9, 2023 and passed on peacefully on Thursday August 29, 2024.
Before his posting to Akwa Ibom State, the late CP was Commissioner of Police in Oyo State.
Late CP Ayilara achievements during his life and times as super corp included; reduction of crime rates; improved community policing; anti-cultism efforts, where he led successful operations against cult groups, reducing their influence and activities in the State.
Others are; enhanced security by implementing measures to improve security, including increased patrols, surveillance, and intelligence gathering; training and development; public engagement and collaboration with other agencies to promote inter-agency cooperation and a unified approach to security.
His legacy of excellent service serves as a testament to his dedication, professionalism and commitment to protecting the people among others.
