The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) has assured the Government of Jigawa State of its commitmed to their agreement on economic reforms.
The Head, Public Communications, BPE, Amina Othman, made this known in a statement which he signed in Abuja on Wednesday.
Alex Okoh, Director-General, BPE, made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Governor, Umar Namadi, at the Jigawa State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
Okoh said the bureau was ready to provide technical support and know-how to assist the Jigawa State Government to optimise its assets.
He said the bureau would also help the government to identify key areas where Public Private Partnership (PPP) could make a tangible impact on the economy of the state.
Okoh said that BPE, as the economic reform agency of the Federal Government, had in the past, supported other states in the country.
He added that the bureau had carried out reforms in many sectors of the Nigerian economy which had brought about the establishment of organisations like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The director-general listed other organisations, including Pension Commission and the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission.
He said, “The bureau believes in the power of innovation, entrepreneurship, and private sector investment to drive the economy.
“Hence by harnessing the resources of the state and BPE, an enabling environment can be created to attract more investments to transform and build a future where opportunities abound for the people of Jigawa to prosper.”
Okoh said BPE was an agency of the Federal Government with more than 30 years of experience in sector/enterprise reforms and assets optimisation in the country.
He said that the Federal Government, through a circular in 2020, expanded BPE’s mandate to include acting on its behalf in the administration of concession and PPP in Nigeria.
He added that Namadi’s successful emergence as governor reflected the trust and confidence the people of Jigawa placed in his leadership.
Congratulating the state on its 32nd anniversary, Okoh expressed the bureau’s commitment to foster the development and progress of Jigawa, saying this had been achieved due to good leadership in the past.
He said that Jigawa provided many investment opportunities which included agribusiness, solid minerals, renewable energy, light manufacturing, Maigatari Export Process Zone, and Gagarawa Industrial Pack.
Okoh commended the state for ranking top as one of the best places for doing business in Nigeria, in the second edition of the subnational Ease of Doing Business 2023 Report.
In his remark, Namadi expressed delight with the visit and promised to collaborate with the bureau to bring the needed economic reforms to the state.
