The Benue State government has warned members of the public against stealing food and aid intended for victims of herdsmen attack in Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camps in the state
The Executive Secretary, State Emergency and Management Agency, SEMA, James Iorpu, made the appeal, during the monthly routine distribution exercise in Makurdi.
Iorpu said the relief materials are not palliatives that should be hijacked and stolen.
Report say that food and non-food items such as rice, beans, noodles, garri, red and vegetable oils, salt, sugar as well as mattresses, soap and detergents were designated for 14 registered IDP camps
The relief materials were also distributed to other persons of concern centres aimed at cushioning the sufferings of other displaced people pending when they are resettled.
The Commissioner for Disaster and Humanitarian Affairs, Aondowase Kunde, also assured the IDPs of government commitment to resettle them anytime soon.
He assured Benue citizens that the government was working effortlessly to revamp their socio-economic fortunes.
Kunde informed the public that some International agencies in collaboration with the state government and other partners were carrying out biometric exercises to ascertain the exact population of IDPs in Benue.
