A member of the House of Representatives representing Akko Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Usman Bello-Kumo, has awarded contracts for the construction of schools and a modern maternity hospital within six weeks in his constituency.
Mr Kumo, who is a Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, made this known on Monday during ceremonies marking the commencement of the projects at Tumfure and Unguwan Baka in Gona and Pindiga districts of Akko Local Government Area of the state.
At Tumfure, the lawmaker who was represented by Abubakar Luggerewo, the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, said the modern maternity hospital would be constructed and commissioned within 6 weeks.
According to him, maternity clinic is a 45-bed capacity and would be equipped with adequate modern facilities to improve access to quality health care.
At Pindiga, while flagging off the construction of a primary school at Unguwan Baka, the lawmaker said 6 classrooms, teacher’s offices and a store would be constructed to improve children’s enrollment in the community.
The lawmaker added that the gesture would ensure a persistent and drastic reduction in the number of out-of-school children in the constituency.
In the Akko district, while inspecting the ongoing project for the construction of a block of 3 classrooms at Akkoyel, the lawmaker also awarded a fresh contract for the construction of an Islamic school in the Barambu community.
Speaking at the occasions, the Chairman of Akko Local Government Area, Abubakar Barambu, thanked the lawmaker on behalf of the people of Akko for the development projects he has been initiating.
The chairman, therefore, pledged to provide qualified teachers at the schools upon their completion.
In their separate remarks, the emirs of Gona and Pindiga commended the lawmaker for the projects, calling on the benefiting communities to utilize the projects upon their completion.
Also awarded were contracts for the drilling of water boreholes at Kombani Isa, Garin Solok, Tashan Magarya Kumo, Kumo Kan Bariki, Kalshingi, Unguwan Direbobi Kumo, Garin Bogo, Jauroji Kumo, Tudun Kuka, Sumbe Pindiga and Yankari communities.
The lawmaker also received over 1000 members of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the local government who defected to All Progressives Congress, APC.
The decampees pledged to support and ensure the victory of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa-Yahaya and the other true loyalists of the governor in the forthcoming general election.
The ceremonies were attended by top government functionaries in the state, party leadership and supporters including Danladi Adamu, Commissioner of Rural Development, Bello Sulaiman, Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Affairs, Abdullahi Abubakar Maiwanka and many others.
