The Bauchi state government has set up a Judicial Panel of Inquiry comprising 17 members to look into cases of violations of Fundamental Human Rights by security agents in the state .
In a staremnt issued to newsmen on Tuesday, Alhaji Mukhtar Gidado, Senior Special Assistant on Media to Gov. Bala Mohammed, gave the name of the Chairman of the panel as Retired Justice Habibu Idris, while the representative of State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, will serve as Secretary.
He said the panel is expected to investigate critically, cases of violation of Human Rights by the police, especially the recently disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).
According to him, the panel was formed in compliance with the recent presidential directive that all the 36 state should establish same to investigate and ascertain human right violations, if any .
Other members of the panel are Commissioner of Police Hamisu Makama (Rtd), Mr Jibrin Jibrin of Civil Society group,Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association and representatives of National Human Rights Commission, International Federation of Women Lawyers, Jamaatul Nasril Islam and the chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists.
Also included are representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria,National Council of Women Societies,Chamber of Commerce, Cattle Breeders Association, Union of Road Transport Workers and Youth Council.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bauchi state did not record any case of breach of the peace since the commencement of the #EndSARS protest.
NAN checks revealed that some strange and desperate persons had entered the state at the heat of the protest to convince the people and some non-governmental organizations to join the fray.
They were however rebuffed and told to either leave the state or keep their peace.
