The Bauchi government has directed all commissioners to henceforth submit monthly nominal rolls of Ministries and Departments under them to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, for proper scrutiny.
Gov. Bala Mohammed, who gave the directive during a parley toward sanitising the state’s pay rolls and salary structure, lamented the delay in submitting the pay rolls to the appropriate quarters.
He noted that the salary structure and the nominal rolls needed to be fully and properly sanitised for accountability, transparency and prudent management of state resources, stressing that the government would no longer allow any sharp practices to continue.
Mohammed said he was saddened at the collusion, duplicity and complicity being perpetuated by some civil servants, who fraudulently inflated the salaries, pension and allowances of some of their colleagues.
He assured that all the detected culprits would be exposed and prosecuted, to serve as a deterrent to others, stressing that “the state government was committed to purging such civil servants from sharp practices’’.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Bauchi state government had recently engaged a consulting firm to sanitize its pay and nominal rolls, after which a huge discovery of monumental fraud was detected.
