Gunmen identified to be bandits in their large number have invaded Kasaya village in Buruku; Chickun local government area of Kaduna state on Monday morning, leaving one person dead.
The bandits who carted away with valuables such as money, phones and motorcycles also kidnapped unidentified number of residents and set fire on a Church.
It was also gathered by our reporter that students preparing to write JSS3 examination including teachers were kidnapped, one Benjamin Auta, a 29-year-old man was killed during the attack.
A resident of the affected community who pleaded anonymity while speaking, said the bandits came on motorbikes of over 20 with three persons on each.
The source who applauded the soldiers said that their quick response gave the residents hope. ” the soldiers came when the bandits were still operating,” he said.
He said despite the efforts of the soldiers to curb the situation, “One guy called Benjamin Auta was killed by the bandits even when they knew soldiers were around.” He disclosed that the victim has been buried.
According to the source: “the bandits also attacked a school, Prince Academy, where they kidnapped some students, who were writing their JSS 3 examination, and their teachers. They also kidnapped some farmers who were on the farm when the bandits came. As we speak, we have not been able to ascertain how many of our people were kidnapped.
“They also loot homes and carted away valuables, including motorcycles, phones and money before they burnt a church popularly called Amincci Baptist church. They did not burn the roof of the church but every thing inside was burnt,” he narrated.
Efforts by our reporter to confirm the situation from the Police did not yield positive, as the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, did not take his call or respond to text message put forward to him as at the time of filing this report.
