The state government of New South Wales (NSW), Australia, on Monday announced additional public transport services to be available in Sydney, one of the host cities for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
According to a statement released by the NSW government, there will be around 1,800 additional public transport services running across the match dates aiming to encourage football fans to leave their cars at home.
An extra 170 buses and 127 train services will be available for each match at Sydney Olympic Park, with an extra 20 shuttle buses and 20 light rail services running for each of the games held at Moore Park.
The state government also reminded local motorists of limited on-site parking places around the stadiums and significant traffic delays, particularly on weeknight games during the already busy evening peak.
From Thursday July 20 to Aug. 20, Sydney will host 11 matches, with five games at Stadium Australia at Sydney Olympic Park, including the final match, and six games at Sydney Football Stadium, Moore Park.
“This week the biggest event in Women’s sport starts and Sydney is going to be at its sports-loving best. More than 400,000 tickets have already been sold for 11 Sydney matches,” said John Graham, NSW minister for jobs and tourism.
“All of NSW is set to get behind this, but we do need to stress that people attending games should plan to leave the car at home, arrive early and make a day or night of it with plenty of local venues in short walking distance of the stadium precincts,” Graham noted. (Xinhua/NAN)
