The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has assured people displaced by recent attacks on some rural communities in the south of Kaduna of prompt intervention toward improving their living conditions.
Mrs Maimunatu Abubakar, its Executive Secretary, gave the assurance on Tuesday, when she undertook an assessment tour of some of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Zonkwa, Zango-Kataf Local Government.
“We are here to assess what is 0n ground; we want to assess their living conditions for further action,” she said.
She commended the coordinators who set up the camps to assist the displaced persons, and promised that government would soon step in to ameliorate their plight.
“We shall do everything possible to assist. We are concerned about you and shall ensure that the conditions you live in are decent,” she said.
In his remarks, the Coordinator of the camps, Pastor Gambo Waziri, commended the SEMA boss for the timely visit, noting that it was the first visit by a government official.
He said that the challenges confronting the IDPs were enormous, adding that four communities were being camped at the Evangelical Christian Academy, Zonkwa.
Waziri named the affected communities as Sabon kaura, Chibob, Kampani and Gora Gan, all in Zango-Kataf Local Government.
Other communities hit included Sako, Gora-Sagwaza, Rafin-Kaura, Bafai-Gida, Takanai, Warkan, Kurmin Gandu, Ung-Rohogo, Sabafan and Yagbak.
Others included Kigudu, Mazaki, Kibori, Rafin-Saiwa, Badawa, Kurfi, Goshen, Ung-Sabo, Runji, Gora-Gida, Ung-Wakili and Ashawuche.
He listed major challenges confronting the camps to include food shortage, lack of drugs, sanitary pads and unpaid medical bills.
Other challenges included the acute shortage of mattresses, blankets, buckets, soap and detergents.
