A non-governmental organisation, Oluwaseun Dania International Foundation, says it is using the creativity of children in the field of arts to reach out to countries affected by war and also promote global peace.
The President of the foundation, Mr Oluwaseun Dania told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at an event on Tuesday in Lagos, that arts was a universal language that cuts across the world.
NAN reports that the event tagged, “My Freedom Day” , was organised by the foundation, in collaboration with Slum Art School, to unveil a 4ft by 40ft artwork, painted by children, to call for an end to the war in Ukraine.
The painting which took the children about two weeks to finish, was done using blue and yellow paints, as a way to show support to Ukraine and other places in the world affected by war and conflict.
Dania said the initiative was aimed at engaging children, who participate in arts, to showcase their creativity by using their artworks to pass the message of peace to the world.
According to him, anytime there are conflicts and wars, the innocent people are the ones who suffer the most.
“Innocent children across the world are being killed. They are suffering as a result of conflicts happening.
“We want the kids to be a point of reference and for people to see the innocence in them and to understand that they have to stop involving innocent people in conflicts,” he said.
He cautioned against racism and violence, adding that conflicts would make the world ignore issues plaguing it, such as the climate change and COVID-19.
Dania urged nations to embrace freedom, empathy, peace, diplomacy and work together for the wellbeing of humanity.
Mohammed Rokibat, one of the children who participated in the painting told NAN that he was happy to be part of a programme that helped to promote peace.
He called for an end of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
