Mr Abdullahi Candido, Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has expressed appreciation to residents of the area council for their support, following his election victory at the Court of Appeal Tribunal.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Court of Appeal, had on Thursday, July 23, upheld the victory of Candido, candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), at the 2019 general elections.
The court had dismissed an appeal by Candido’s closet rival, Vivian Anazodo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in which Candido was returned to office.
Candido, while briefing newsmen on Monday in Abuja, also appreciated the judiciary and called on the opposition to work with his administration to move the council forward.
“You will recall that the 2019 elections came and ended peacefully, but there were some litigation right from the lower tribunal until we got to the court of appeal tribunal.
“The court of appeal met last Thursday and decided on a case filed by the candidate of the PDP challenging our victory, first at the election tribunal which started from June to November 2019.
“And between December last year till last Thursday, she was also at the court of appeal tribunal,where we won.
“We want to appreciate the residents and people of this area council for standing with us all these years and we will ensure that we deliver the dividends of democracy to them,”he said.
The chairman, while giving update on the COVID-19 status of the council’s secretary, disclosed that the secretary, having tested negative after several round of test, had been discharged from the isolation center.
He added that the council would continue to ensure that the COVID-19 safety protocols are observed at all times.
On issues of infrastructural development, the chairman, added that contractors had resumed work on various project sites and assured that the council would ensure speedy completion of all projects.
