Angry youths on Monday evening set ablaze a suspected armed robber who allegedly stabbed an eighteen-year-old POS operator to death in Taraba State.
The sad incident happened near Wukari yam market in Wukari town, the capital of the local government area.
Sources said the female victim, who was attacked in her shop, was preparing for her National Examination Council (NECO) exams.
They said the suspect entered the girl’s shop under the guise of making a withdrawal, adding that the suspect stabbed the victim after she resisted an attempt to rob her.
The spokesperson of Taraba State Police Command, Gambo Kwache, who confirmed the incident, said. “The suspect who stabbed the POS operator on her neck was lynched by the youths who went after him.”
He said the police were investigating the incident.
A source who identified himself as Gboshi Ali, told DAYLIGHTREPORTERS that the suspect who attempted to escape after stabbing the lady was arrested by an irate crowd, and was lynched to death and his body was set ablaze.
“On approaching her shop, the suspect, who could not succeed in stealing money from her, because of her resistance, decided to stab her to death.
“He tried to escape but he was chased and arrested by those that were in the scene, he was beaten to death and his body set ablaze.”
Chairman of the local government council, Ismaila Dauda, confirmed the incident to our reporter in Jalingo.
“It is true that one young man went into a POS operator’s shop and stabbed her to death on Monday, June 17th, 2024, in Wukari town.
“The suspect was pursued, caught, and lynched to death by hoodlums.
“It’s a sad and unfortunate incident. The young girl of 18 came to prepare for NECO exams and unfortunately met her untimely death,” Mr Dauda lamented.
