Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner issues red flag to criminals, others; Warns sponsors and collaborators to beware
By Dennis Udoma, Uyo
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Waheed Ayilara has expressed the resolve of his Command to smoke out criminal elements wherever they are hiding in the state.
The CP declared his stance during a maiden press conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital to announce his take over from Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi, who was recently promoted as Assistant Police Commissioner, Zone 2 in the South – Western Nigeria.
Though, the Commissioner is talking tough by vowing to raid criminal hideouts and ensure peace in the state but, cultists and kidnappers are holding sway in some parts of the state.
For more than a year, villagers in Ikot Abasi Akpan, Ekpuk Town, Ikot Abia Enin, Ikot Obio Nso, Nya Odiong, Ikot Ekpaw, Minya Ntak, Ikot Essen Akpan Ntuen and the environs in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the stat, know no peace as people sleep with one eye open due the nefarious activities of these miscreants.
It can be recalled that, a veteran broadcaster, Mr. Malachy Ufot was killed by kidnappers late last year, while a Catholic priest of St. Pius X Parish, Ikot Abasi Akpan, medical superintendent attached to a Cottage Hospital at Ikot Ekpaw and a fearless cleric and founder of the Solid Rock Kingdom Church, Apostle John Okoriko amongst others were abducted.
“I am using this medium to prevail on all criminals and their collaborators in the state to pack thier bags and baggages and relocate from the state.
“It is not going to be business as usual. We shall take the battle to your hideouts and deny you freedom of action anywhere in the state”, the CP declared.
He also explained that, the Command will collaborate with sister security agencies and critical stakeholders in the state to achieve successes in the planned action in addition to tackling unprofessionalism among the rank and file in the force.
He appealed to the residents of the state to embrace peace and resist any temptation to resort to violence, threat or misinformation on social media that may threaten the peace and security of the state stressing that, under his administration, the people will be safe within the context of the rule of law, professionalism, and utmost respect for fundamental human rights.
“My primary goal is to foster a safe and secure environment for every resident. Together, we will work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law, promote accountability and ensure the safety of all indigenes and the residents of the state.
“The challenges we may face will be met with resilience, innovation, and a shared dedication to upholding the ideals of justice and security,” he added.
