AIG, Cross River CP Visit Acting Governor, Condemn Watt Market Shooting

The newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, Mr. Olusegun Eyitayo Omosayin, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 6, Mr. Mustapha Mohammed Bala have condemned the actions Police Inspector Effiong, who recently shot indiscriminately killing one and injuring two others in Calabar.
The Police chiefs made the condemnation during a courtesy visit on the Acting Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey to brief him on the circumstances surrounding the shooting at popular Watt Market, Calabar, the state capital.
Speaking, AIG Bala described the Police Inspector’s action as unacceptable and contrary to the principles of professional policing.
He assured the state government and the public that a thorough investigation was underway.
Responding, the State Acting Governor, Rt Hon Peter Odey, who expressed deep concern over the incident and called for stringent measures to prevent a recurrence.
Odey also emphasized the need for enhanced training and discipline among officers, particularly in handling of firearms in public spaces.
The Acting Governor further reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working closely with the police and other security agencies to combat crime and sustain Cross River State’s reputation as one of the safest states in Nigeria.
The visit followed the Acting Governor’s condolence visit to the family of the deceased victim, during which he urged the public to remain calm amid growing outrage over the incident.
