Indigent students from the northern part of the country are benefitiaries of N100 million worth of scholarship awards from the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation to enable them complete their education in tertiary institutions.
This is disclosed in a statement signed by the Director-General of the foundation, Abubakar Umar, and issued in Kaduna on Wednesday.
According to Mr Umar, the initiative is a yearly occurence, with the purpose of providing financial aid to students who are less-privileged, enabling them to pursue their academic careers.
He emphasised the importance of empowering students who are financially challenged to achieve their educational aspirations.
He said, “Our scholarship programme is designed to alleviate the financial burden on deserving students, ensuring that they have equal opportunities to excel academically. By investing in their education, we believe we are investing in the future of Northern Nigeria.”
He said since the initiation of the scholarship scheme, approximately 600 scholars had successfully graduated with exceptional grades.
He said, “Impressively, 48 per cent of these graduates have attained first-class honours, reflecting the high caliber of students benefiting from the foundation’s support.
“Currently, the foundation’s scholars studying at various Nigerian universities are demonstrating outstanding academic performances.“
He said the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the foundation, Dr Babangida Aliyu and other personages had been present at the scholarship award ceremony.
Mr Umar said, “Their attendance signifies the collective commitment and dedication to fostering education and uplifting the Northern Nigerian community.”
He noted that the foundation remains steadfast in its mission to promote educational development and empower the youth of Northern Nigeria.
According to him, through the scholarship programme, the foundation intends to nurture the talents and potential of deserving students, enabling them to contribute positively to the society, both locally and globally.
