Activist Tasks Gombe Gov’t On Gender Sensitive Budget
BY NAJIB SANI, GOMBE
A women right activist in Gombe State Barrister Martha Daniel has called on the government of Gombe State to be gender conscious as it presents its budget for the 2024 fiscal year.
Martha who is the founder of a non governmental organization known as ‘Advocacy For Children’s Right Initiative’ made the call in a statement she issued to our correspondent.
She said it is essential for government to present a gender responsive budget that will cater for the needs of the diverse citizens and foster a sense of justice.
“A gender-responsive budgeting is a strategy that creates budgets that work for everyone. By considering and analyzing the unique and diverse needs of every person, gender-responsive budgets strive for a fair distribution of resources.
“Gender-responsive budgets foster a sense of justice, strengthen government accountability, and support better alignment of national budgets with Sustainable Development Goals.
“Furthermore, a gender-responsive budget is a budget that works for everyone (women and men, girls and boys) by ensuring gender-equitable distribution of resources and by contributing to equal opportunities for all.
“It is thus important to note that a gender-responsive budgeting is essential both for gender justice and for fiscal justice leading to the growth and development of the state.
“To this end, as the governor prepares to present the 2024 budget before the Gombe State House of Assembly, I am calling on him to consider a gender responsive budget.”, the activist submitted.
