We Have 51 Primary Schools With Less Than 300 Teachers – Education Secretary

The Education Secretary of Ekye Administrative Area of Doma Local Government Council of Nasarawa State, Donald Emmanuel Edoh, has open the can of worms that Doma South has 51 Primary Schools with less than 300 teachers.
He gave the hint when the Education Secretary led the management team of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to the Executive Chairman of the mother Local Government, Hon. Jonathan Okuba Addra on a congratulatory visit recently.
The Education Secretary described education as the backbone of the nation’s future, Adding that no society can grow without sound education.
Mr Emmanuel expressed concern over the way and manner head teachers were subjected to untold hardship to procure chalk, desk, and register of pupils, describing the development as a serious setback to education.
“It is the education sector that sustains other sectors, he said, adding “there is the need for Ekye to be carried along. It was the child of the common man that suffered the lack of manpower to man the 51 primary schools in 2012.
“We used to have a total of 4,073 teachers but now we have less than 300 teachers in Ekye Administrative Area.”
He lamented the manner teachers do not take their work seriously and promised to sanction erring ones appropriately.
The Education Secretary, Donald Emmanuel Edoh, expressed worry on the low enrollment of pupils in public schools, saying the sector is faced with a lot of challenges.
According to him, there is acute lack of adequate teachers and instructional materials needed to urgently boost standard of education in the area. He assured the chairman that people of Ekye would support and pray for success of his administration.
Recalling that the state governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, during the presentation of 2025 budget to the State House of Assembly reminded and directed the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) to perfect the recruitment of 4,700 primary school teachers in the State.
The former Nsubeb Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Musa Dan’azumi who just handed over to his secretary last week declined comment on the recruitment exercise.
