The Edo State Sports Commission chairman, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele has appealed to the United Bank for Africa to sponsor the 2025 Edo Sports Festival.
During a meeting with the bank’s Regional Manager, Mr. Isede Abe Osagie, in Benin City, Enabulele stressed the importance of private partnerships in sports development.
Adding that the 2025 Edo State Sports Festival is scheduled for April 21 to May 1, 2025, he said, “The festival will help us discover and nurture young talents.”
Responding, Mr. Osagie assured that UBA would review the proposal.
“We already have strong ties with Edo State. We’ll study your request and respond,” he said.
Meanwhile, Enabulele also met with the Edo State Squash Association, led by Chairman Hon. Barr. Austin Atakpu.
They discussed ways to grow squash, especially through grassroots programs.
“We need better facilities and more support to attract young players,” Atakpu told the Commission’s chairman.
Professional player Femi Shedara presented his trophy from the Uganda Open Squash Tournament held in February.
Enabulele pledged support for the association. “We’ll work together to make Edo a squash powerhouse,” he said.
The Sports Commission boss also met civil society leaders led by Comrade Agho Omobude on possible collaboration to promote sports in Edo State.
