Gov Radda Pledges Marketable Skills for Katsina Youth
By Joe Goddy, Katsina
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering the youth by equipping them with marketable skills and creating more employers of labour in the year ahead.
The Governor made this declaration following the approval of N123 million for training students at the Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV), an initiative aimed at transforming young people into job creators rather than job seekers.
“By equipping our young people with marketable skills, we are not merely taking them off the streets but transforming them into productive entrepreneurs and future employers of labour,” Governor Radda stated.
He further emphasized his administration’s resolve to break down barriers to accessing training facilities, ensuring no youth is left behind in acquiring practical skills.
“Beyond this training, our government is creating a new generation of self-reliant citizens who will contribute meaningfully to the state’s economic growth,” the Governor added.
Engr. Kabir Abdullahi Kofar Soro, the State Coordinator of the Katsina Youth Craft Village, highlighted the diverse range of skills offered at the centre, including shoemaking and leatherworks, computer maintenance and networking, film and photography, auto electrical and mechanical skills, catering, and innovative waste-to-wealth initiatives.
According to Engr. Abdullahi, the training programs vary in duration from three months to one year, depending on the complexity of the skills.
He also mentioned the establishment of similar centres in Daura and Malumfashi local government areas, as part of the administration’s efforts to decentralize skills acquisition opportunities across the state.
The Governor’s “Building Your Future” agenda, which prioritizes economic empowerment and sustainable pathways out of poverty, serves as the foundation for these initiatives.
With this renewed investment in youth empowerment, Governor Radda is setting the stage for a brighter future for Katsina’s youth, fostering innovation, self-reliance, and economic growth across the state.
