National Association of Seadogs, (NAS), a.k.a Pirates Confraternity, Atlantic Shores Deck in Eket has commemorated this year’s Women’s Day with donated 100 packs of sanitary pads to Girls High School, Eket Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking at the presentation of the items, its President, Capoon Idongesit Ifon said, the gesture was in line with the International Women’s Day Celebration (IWD) which took place on Saturday, March 8.
The Women’s Day 2025 which was tagged, “Accelerate Action” Ifon noted, was aimed at inspiring and empowering young girls by addressing gender parity challenges through mentorship and mental health support.
He said the intervention by NAS, aligned with the global call to accelerate action towards gender equality by empowering young girls, educating them on systemic barriers.
Other barriers included; biases against women’s progress in society, addressing menstrual hygiene challenges, and amplifying advocacy efforts, stressing the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality.
The President of Seadogs however , called for increased momentum and urgency in addressing these barriers that women face in personal and professional spheres.
Also speaking, Emem Bassey, an award-winning female author and an advocate of gender-parity, held interactive session with the students and shared some inspiring experiences and strategies for them to overcome gender – based challenges.

Bassey said that all the participating students also received sanitary pads to promote menstrual hygiene and thus contribute to reducing school absenteeism.
The IWD brings together individuals and organisations Worldwide to honour women’s accomplishments, raise awareness about gender equality issues and advocate for positive change, she stated.
The Principal of the School, Mrs Augusta Ekanem thanked the National Association of Seadogs for raising awareness on women’s equality, positive change and celebrating women’s achievement among others.
