The State Commissioner for Education, Dr Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, who led the exercise across the three senatorial districts, described the initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a strategic effort to help indigent students to easily secure funding for their education.

According to Dr Iyamu, in line with the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration’s mandate to improve the education sector, the Ministry of Education is working to eliminate barriers that prevent students in Edo State-owned tertiary institutions from paying their fees.

Speaking at one of the events at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, the Commissioner encouraged students from various tertiary institutions in the state to take advantage of the initiative.

He emphasised the Edo State Government’s commitment to alleviating the financial burden on parents, maintaining that the partnership with NELFUND would provide significant relief for families.

Dr Iyamu further explained that the collaboration between the Edo State Government and NELFUND would ensure that all Edo students have access to university and tertiary education without the immediate burden of paying school fees in addition to the stipends they would receive to cover miscellaneous expenses while studying.

The Commissioner described the programme as a way of implementing President Tinubu’s education blueprint in Edo State.

He added that the Edo State Government was finalising all necessary arrangements for tertiary students in the state to access loans across the three senatorial districts.

The Rector of Edo State Polytechnic Usen, Engr Sylvester Omoruyi, expressed gratitude to Governor Okpebholo for the initiative and encouraged students across the three senatorial districts to seize the opportunity.
