N/Assembly Clerk Advocates Devt Of Legislative Drafting Manual

The Clerk to Nigeria’s National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, has reiterated the need to develop a legislative drafting manual to enhance the quality of legislation in the Parliament.
According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary, Research and Information, signed by the Director, Information, Bullah Audu Bi-Allah, Ogunlama stated this during a courtesy visit by s delegation from the British Parliament, led by Kate Osamor, who is currently on a 2-day working visit to the National Assembly.
He said, the development of a legislative drafting manual is crucial in promoting transparency, accountability, and effective governance as well as a standardised framework for legislative drafting, ensuring that laws are clear, concise, and unambiguous.
“As members of the British Parliament, you share a legacy of fostering governance that reflects the will of the people and champions rights and freedoms,” the Clerk said. “We take immense pride in the path we have forged and the collaborative spirit we have nurtured with you over the decades,”
Ogunlana emphasised the significance of strengthening the legislative framework, drawing from the historic relationship between the Nigerian Parliament and the British Parliament.
The clerk highlighted the shared values and mutual interests that bind the two nations, particularly in promoting good governance, democracy, and human rights.
He said, “This partnership between the National Assembly and the British Parliament marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality of legislation in Nigeria and promoting good governance, democracy, and human rights”.
