One Dead In Benin Stadium Mast Collapse

A tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, as a mast collapsed during heavy rainfall, leading to the death of a young man, Pius Etim.
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has since expressed deep sadness over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.
He described the incident as “unfortunate, sad, and painful,” and assured that the state government’s thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family during this difficult time.
Meanwhile the governor has condemned members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly celebrating Etim’s demise on social media, calling their actions callous and insensitive.
It was gathered however that the collapsed structure was erected during the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki who the governor blamed for a shoddy construction work.
He vowed that his government would go after any contractor or individual found responsible for the substandard construction.
