Makurdi Residents Celebrates Drainage Channels, Electricity Restoration

Just within a week of staying without public power supply, residents of Akpehe Logo 2 community in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital, were seen celebrating the long-awaited restoration of electricity in the area especially around the Pever Agenga axis following pulling down of electricity poles due to the construction of drainage channels along Abu King Shuluwa Road from the Wurukum Market.
A resident, Mr. Saanmoiyol expressed his joy, noting that the absence of electricity had hindered his barbing business for a week but expressed joy that power has been restored and the area will not flood when the rains set in because of the new drainage system being constructed.
He said: “We are thankful to God and happy because for decades we have suffered from impassable streets but Governor Alia has come to our rescue.”
To Mrs Desen Terna, a food vendor, these infrastructural improvements has boosted my business and has opened up our area. ‘We are sincerely grateful to the government for providing these infrastructural,” Desen stated.
For Nguseer, an okpa seller, I can now grind my beans with electric machine and good streets to hawk my food in the wheelbarrow. This will significantly increase my sales and earnings.
She added: “I get plenty money now and can provide for my family needs. I am grateful to the government for this development.”
Beyond the construction of network of roads and restoring electricity supply, the residents highlighted various developmental projects undertaken in the area.
These include the rehabilitation of all public schools, hospitals, purchase of a hundred buses for the Benue Links Transport Company as well as the construction of feeder roads in the ruralcommunities. To crown it all, there has been recruitment process ongoing in the State Civil service.
