Hotel MD Denies Involvement In Bolt Driver’s Death
By Osehobo Ofure, Benin-City
Eric Osaigbovo, Managing Director of De Kaso Hotel in Benin City, has denied any involvement in the death of a Bolt driver Osarodion Osemwhenkhai, at the hotel last week.
Following the incident, a mob stormed the hotel over the weekend, attempting to set it ablaze. They also attacked Osaigbovo, beat up and left him unconscious.
Speaking to journalists, Osaigbovo said he was fortunate to have survived.
He claimed CCTV footage showed that none of his hotel staff was involved in the sad incident.
“It was a guest who had checked out, as seen in the CCTV footage, that beat the driver. Some NSCDC personnel also joined in the assault. The people responsible are known. I am completely innocent,” he stated.
Osaigbovo explained that the fight began when the Bolt driver nearly hit a guest’s car. “Someone gave the driver ₦10,000 for treatment after the beating. The NSCDC officers later took him to their office,” he alleged.
He recounted how more than 100 youths stormed the hotel with a dead body. “Before I knew what was happening, they started destroying everything and tried to burn the hotel. I was beaten until I lost consciousness before the police rescued me,” he said.
Police spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu has since confirmed the incident and that four NSCDC officers had been arrested and were in police custody.
