NBA Visits Gombe Police, NSCDC To Promote Human Rights

In commemoration of International Human Rights Day, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Gombe State branch in collaboration with the Network of Legal Aids Providers and the Human Rights Committee, visited the Gombe State Command of the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to promote respect for human rights of people in their custody.
According to the Chairman of the NBA in Gombe, Barrister Benjamin Sati, the visit aimed to ensure that security agencies utilise their powers positively to protect and promote human rights.
Sati expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police and the Commandant of NSCDC Civil for their commitment to upholding the rule of law.
The visit also included an inspection of the Criminal Investigation Department, cells and clinics of both the Police and Civil Defence Corps.
Barrister Sunday Akporido of the Network of Legal Aids Providers emphasised the need for synergy between security agencies and the NBA to achieve their human rights goals.
Similarly, Barrister Mali Naomi Abdu of the Human Rights Committee stressed the importance of reflection, providing solutions, and moving forward in promoting human rights.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Usman, and the Commandant of NSCDC, Gyama Gyawiya, pledged their support and cooperation in promoting human rights in Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole.
