Why We’re Working Hard on Taraba Master Plan – Governor Kefas
By Juliet Vincent
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has decried the lack of a serious and effective master plan for the state.
He noted that years of not having one have affected growth and development.
According to him, his administration is working round the clock to get a workable plan for the state that will eliminate chaos in urban planning and enhance urban development.
In a press statement Tuesday by his Special Adviser Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, the governor reiterated his promise to harness the state resources to jerk up the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), stressing that a master plan is pivotal for this to work better.
Stressing the need for a master plan, Dr. Kefas noted that modern developmental models depend largely on such documents for direction.
He said at the moment, Taraba State has no master plan and attempts to get one in the past stalled.
In addition, a recent survey showed that apart from Jalingo, the entire local governments have no master plans either, on which to benchmark urban planning and other related usage of a master plan.
The governor decried a situation that has seen the state making blind permutations in the past without a workable document.
He noted that proper and efficient planning must be anchored on a blueprint of data and designs.
He, however, noted that a consortium of professionals are currently working round the clock to come up with a master plan that will take into account mineral deposits found and a comprehensive mapping of the entire state.
“This would have huge implications for road constructions, bridges, and rail lines. Modern cities can then emerge, showing clearly the demarcation between residential areas and business centers. Land allocation, signages, and economic zones can then be properly mapped out,” the statement stressed.
