‘Nigeria Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja Not Dead, It’s Fake News’

The Nigerian Army has denied the rumours making the rounds that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has died.
Many online publications and countless social media handlers posted that Chief of Army Staff died at an undisclosed hospital overseas of cancer-related ailment.
They even claimed a succession lobby was on by top military brass.
But, on the Nigerian Army official X handle, it posted of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja photograph embossed on a news purportedly announcing his ‘death’ and tagged ‘Fake news’.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu categorically dismissed the rumours that the Army Chief is dead.
“To be very clear, the Nigerian Army is a highly structured establishment with well-laid-out procedures and processes for dealing with different circumstances. Before proceeding on leave, necessary protocols were put in place for the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Abdulsalami Bagudu Ibrahim, to act on behalf of the COAS while he is away,” Major General Nwachukwu averred.
