Plateau Police Commissioner Announces Movement Restrictions Ahead of Local Government Elections

Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, has announced a restriction on movement throughout the state from 12 midnight to 6pm on Wednesday due to the local government elections.
During a stakeholders meeting held in Jos on Monday, Adesina underscored the importance of creating a peaceful and secure environment to facilitate eligible voters in casting their ballot.
He indicated that the movement restrictions are designed to mitigate potential security threats and ensure that voters can participate in the electoral process without fear of intimidation.
The police chief called on politicians to avoid making inflammatory remarks that could lead to unrest and to foster cooperation for a peaceful election.
He stressed that by enforcing the movement ban, authorities would be better positioned to monitor and manage the situation, thereby preventing any disruptions or incidents of violence.
“While the movement restrictions may cause some inconvenience, they are crucial for ensuring the safety and security of all voters,” he said.
Several stakeholders at the meeting expressed their commitment to working alongside security agencies to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Attendees included representatives from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), various religious organizations, and women and youth groups.
