Gombe PDP Describes Governor Yahaya’s Media Chat Missed Opportunity for Genuine Dialogue
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has expressed disappointment following the recent media chat with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
This forum, intended as a platform for transparent dialogue and engagement with the citizenry, regrettably devolved into a carefully orchestrated performance devoid of substance and genuine interaction.
This was contained in the statement Sunday by Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, Public Relations Officer (PRO), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Gombe State Chapter.
Throughout the chat, the Governor employed his trademark dismissive rhetoric, failing to exhibit the humility and accountability expected from a leader in his position.
The PDP said instead of addressing the pressing challenges facing our state, Governor Yahaya chose to launch unprovoked attacks on the striking staff of Gombe State University, accusing the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of sabotaging Federal Government policies.
“These dedicated professionals have tirelessly contributed to the institution’s success, often under less-than-ideal working conditions. Their commendable efforts deserve recognition, not derision,” the PDP stressed.
Similarly, the party explained, the Governor’s remarks concerning the new minimum wage and the so-called N10,000 palliative for civil servants were vague and lacked the clarity that citizens urgently seek.
It pointed out that many individuals who attempted to engage in the conversation via social media found their questions selectively ignored, casting doubt on the authenticity of this purportedly open dialogue.
The party said it is disappointing to witness an administration that prioritizes image over action, leading to a lack of meaningful engagement with the electorate.
The PDP noted that the chat ultimately served as a missed opportunity to address critical issues that Governor Yahaya’s government has neglected, such as education, healthcare, water, agriculture, youth and women’s empowerment, and workers’ rights—issues that resonate deeply with the people of Gombe State.
“As a responsible opposition party, the PDP is committed to holding the government accountable. We will be publishing the comments and requests submitted by Gombe citizens during this chat, shedding light on the voices that were silenced and the important questions that went unanswered,” the statement said.
The party urged Governor Yahaya to adopt a more constructive approach to governance one that fosters genuine dialogue and prioritizes the welfare of the citizens he was elected to serve.
The people of Gombe State deserve leadership grounded in accountability, transparency, and a sincere commitment to addressing their needs, the PDP stressed.
