Twenty political parties in Gombe state have accused the state government of not adhering to court order of reinstatement.
The opposition political parties under the Inter Party Advisory Council Nigeria (IPAC), Gombe state chapter has alleged that they were being marginalized and that government in the state does not respect the rule of law on the matter of reinstatement as pronounced by the Court.
Speaking to our reporter on phone, the Chairman of the group, Abdulhamid Sadiq of Better Nigerian Progressive Party (BNPP), indicted the Special Adviser to the state government on Inter political parties relations,Umar Bello Yayaru
of flouting the court order.
Sadiq explained that the Special Adviser on Inter Party Affairs has succeeded in dividing IPAC in the state by aligning with just 8 political parties out of 86 parties as recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC).
The Chairman of IPAC, on behalf of the group therefore called on the state Governor to have a rethink on the S.A’s appointment, saying that his office is not helping the Government, rather creating more friction than uniting those under his office.
When asked if the court order has been delivered to the office of the Special Adviser on Inter Parties Relations, the IPAC Chairman said: “yes, court ruling has been delivered to him officially.”
While reacting to the allegations of not obeying court order, the Special Adviser on Inter Party Affairs, Umar Bello Yayaru, disclosed that the rift between his office and IPAC is a minor issue that can be easily resolved.
Although, Yayaru explained that IPAC is fictionalised in the state, with Comrade Uba Ayuba as Chairman of a particular faction, while Comrade Abdulhamid Sadiq is the Chairman of the twenty political parties that went to court after they were being deregistered by INEC.
Speaking on phone to our reporter, Yayaru explained further that only eighteen political parties were existing until the Appeal Court sometimes last month pronounced the reinstatement of the deregistered political parties by INEC.
“Before the Court advised INEC to reinstate the deregistered political parties, we are already recognizing the eighteen political parties.
“And two months ago, the National Secretariat of IPAC inaugurated caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of IPAC because of the deregistration problem.
“After the resolution of the court, the political parties in question went to IPAC office in Gombe to block the entrance to the office and take over the office.
“As we speak now, we don’t know if there is going to be to further redress”, Yayaru explained.
