LG Elections: Umo Eno’s critics express fears; I work for PDP – Gov
By Dennis Udoma, Uyo
Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno’s relationship with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio is said to be giving his critics sleepless nights.
A source, who pleaded anonymity hinted this saying that, some chieftains of his party are not feeling comfortable with the governor especially, as he has agreed to allow a levelled playing field in the forthcoming Local Government Elections in the State.
He said, the speeches of Senator Akpabio, Ita Enang and other speakers at the rally unsettled the critics, who have sworn to repeat the wining streak for the PDP.
But the governor has urged his critics and the concerned PDP members, who fear he may defect to APC due to his link with Akpabio to refrain.
Governor Eno replied the critics at the weekend in Uyo during media chat with journalists to mark the 37th anniversary of the State, emphazing his respect for Akpabio, as a former governor and now Senate President.
He explained that, while he respects Akpabio’s position, he remains firm in his loyalty to the PDP and is determined to secure victory for his party in the forthcoming local Council elections.
According to him, “the first thing we get from building this relationship is the peace we are all enjoying. Maybe that’s why some people feel that I am neither here nor there. I am a PDP person, I am working for PDP, and as a state, we will continue to support the party. But we must differentiate between party issues and governance.“
We are going for election now, and I am working for my party, the PDP and we are campaigning, and we will win.
“Some people have accused me of my body language. I don’t have body language, you misread me. There is no body language, I am working for the PDP, and we have shown the people that we can be trusted.
“There is no local government that we are not doing something in this state, and there is no comparison; you can’t. I want voters to be the ones to decide; compare what is done to what you are saying and look at what is left.
“I am not raised to be the kind of politician that makes a lot of noise, or goes about insulting people and starts a fight. If we start that, let us not forget that the other party has people who can make that trouble and the state becomes ungovernable and we have issues everywhere.
It would be recalled that, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio during the APC campaign flag off at Ikot Ekpene on Wednesday, had “called on the state government led by Pastor Umo Eno, to continue to rule the state with the fear of God saying, ” let us pray for the Governor of the state, so that he will do the right thing during the forthcoming Local Government elections by declaring the APC candidates winners Wherever they won. He needs our prayers.”
