A diaspora group, #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria, has announced plans to protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States, from September 10-30, 2024.
The group is demanding immediate action on several issues, including the release of detained journalists and whistleblowers, reduction of government size, end to corruption, return of fuel subsidies, good governance, and a robust plan to end insecurity.
In a statement signed by Austin Ikpeme and Peter Olagunju, the group expressed its frustration with the suffering of Nigerians under Tinubu’s administration, citing corruption, human rights abuses, injustices, intimidation, killings, and insecurity as the norm. They vowed to “free Nigeria and Nigerians from Bola Tinubu’s kleptocratic and authoritarian regime.”
The protest is scheduled to take place in front of the Nigerian House on 828 Second Avenue, New York
