The Cross River State Commissioner for Health Dr. Henry Ayuk has stated that the construction of a N470 million general hospital is underway in the state.
Dr. Ayuk, who stated this in an interview in his office to mark his first year in office said, the state governor, Prince Bassey Otu, has approved the construction of the health facility which wiuld be located in Ikom local government area.
He explained that the facility is the most vocal statement in infrastructure development by the governor thus far.
“The present administration has as a matter of policy mandated the overhaul of decaying healthcare infrastructure and construction of new ones to optimize service delivery.
“Today, facilities that were hitherto moribund have returned to life, providing basic health services especially in rural areas.
“The most vocal statement in infrastructure development by the Otu led administration was the approval of four hundred and seventy million naira (470,000,000) for the speedy construction of the General Hospital, Ikom,” the Health Commissioner stated.
Dr. Ayuk further listed other achievements to include recruitment of 33 medical doctors, 22 pharmacists, 153 nurses and the inauguration of a taskforce to rid the health sector of quaks.
He also stated that the the Tuberculosis programme in the state got 36 for the 18 local government area TBLS and their assistants.
