Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has described the youths as the driving force for the state, saying that he is proud of the strides many of them were making in various fields such as education, entrepreneurship, sports and technology.
Governor Alia, who stated these in a broadcast in commemoration of this year’s International Youth Day, which was celebrated on Monday, August 12, 2024, assured of his administration’s commitment towards ensuring that the full potentials of the youths are fully harnessed, through the provision of various initiatives aimed at empowering them.
The Governor particularly commended the youths of the State for being steadfast, showing determination and a strong resilience to rise above every obstacle in their quest to achieving success.
Alia further said; “I am proud of the strides some of you are making in various fields such as education, entrepreneurship, sports, and technology. Your innovation and creativity continue to inspire hope and confidence in the future of our great state and the nation in general.
“As your government, we are fully committed to ensuring that your potential is harnessed, and your dreams are realized. We understand that the development of our youth is a panacea for the development of Benue State.
“This is why we have embarked on several initiatives aimed at empowering you and creating opportunities for your growth,” he stated.
Governor Alia highlighted the ICT training for 10,000 youths in the state, collaboration of his administration with the United Nations for some youth of the state to participate in the UN Volunteer Scheme, the ongoing renovation of Aper Aku Stadium to provide a platform for the teeming youth to showcase their talents, the construction a Fashion Hub with the aim of fostering a new generation of fashion entrepreneurs from Benue state, as some of the initiatives being carried out by his administration with the aim of empowering the youth.
He promised to continue to improve the state’s infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security apparatus which he described as the foundational pillars essential for the long-term growth and prosperity of the state.
Alia said that there are ongoing discussions with all government ministries, agencies and departments, geared towards creating avenues for youth engagement and empowerment.
While also commending the youth of the state for their maturity and wisdom in the recent nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest, Governor Alia, noted with regrets, the challenges posed by insecurity, much of which, he said, involves some of the youth.
Alia therefore urged those engaged in causing mayhem to lay down their arms, embrace peace and the path of constructive engagement, assuring that his administration is doing everything possible to create an atmosphere conducive for all.
A statement by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, said that Alia further called for the youth’s continued cooperation and support for his administration.
The Governor said; “Your priorities are my priorities, and as we continue to work together, I am confident that we will lead Benue State to even greater heights”.
