A call has been made to Nigerian youth protesters to postpone their planned August demonstration against hardship and hunger in the land.
Renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, made the appeal, urging the youth to adopt a peaceful approach in their quest for change.
Sheikh Gumi advised the protesters to postpone their demonstration to January next year, allowing time for better organization, coordination, and articulation of their demands.
“If they react irrationally, say goodbye to this nation of great potential. But if they act wisely, they are the only hope of a prosperous nation whereby every citizen will live in peace and tranquility to pursue his life dreams,” he cautioned, emphasizing the importance of wise action.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Sheikh Gumi acknowledged the youth’s frustration and described their protests as a “great precursor of a brighter future” for Nigeria.
He emphasized the importance of peaceful means in achieving their goals, warning against those who seek to exploit the situation to “balkanize the nation.”
