Fresh Crises In Zamfara APC As Factions Held Parallel Meetings
Fresh internal crisis is rocking the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a notable chieftain of the party and former senator Kabiru Marafa held meeting in Kaduna, alleged being snubbed by the party.
Recall that the party was before the 2019 election thrown into serious political crisis that resulted to its losing most of the elective offices including governor, senates, and members of the state assembly.
The loss followed a disturbing legal suit filed by Marafa against the state government and leadership of the party over the outcome of party congresses which he proved to court that it was not done legitimately.
The court sacked the then governor and members of the state assembly elected under the APC and declared the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that came second winners.
Recall that that development led to the emergence of the immediate past governor of the state Bello Matawalle as the governor.
However, Matawalle later decamped to APC but another internal rivalry in 2023 within the party led to its defeat again to the PDP.
As the party struggles to resurrect, it seems there is no respite as Senator Marafa convened a meeting in Kaduna to revive his former faction.
Speaking to BBC Hausa service, Marafa said he convened the meeting because a stakeholders meeting of the party was summoned in Zamfara where two camps belonging former governors Bello Matawalle and Abdulaziz Yari were invited.
He said since his camp was not recognised, he had to call for a meeting with his people in Kaduna to decide their fate.
“I am a critical stakeholder of the APC even at the national level, let alone Zamfara. So how would I fold hands and allow them to undermine my relevance and stake?. He retorted when asked why he held parallel meeting.
