The Taraba State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON has applauded Governor Agbu Kefas for his effective leadership that has engendered peace and good governance in the state.
The State chairman of the association, Hassan Jauro, gave the commendation in an exclusive chat with our reporter.
“Despite the meager resources and the challenges of governance the governor has brought new innovation into governance and he has been consistent in paying workers their wages” Jauro said.
He said the 16 local government Chairpersons in the state, are highly impressed with the way Governor Kefas has “managed with prudence, integrity, transparency and accountability the state’s lean resources” to pay workers’ salaries, gratuities and retirees’ pensions and execute numerous capital projects across the state, among others.
ALGON also commended the governor for the judicious and transparent utilisation of the palliative funds to the state.
The association scored Mr Kefas “very high” on the implementation of his administration’s five-finger agenda, noting that “the education sector has received a tremendous boost with the introduction of free basic education, improvement of teachers salary and the slashed of 50% school fees for tertiary institutions.
ALGON also appreciated the governor for the massive impact in the agricultural sector through the provision of tractors and farm inputs to farmers. “This is a very heart-warming development.”
In the area of Health, he noted that the Governor has already approved the building of new specialist Hospitals across the state and has purchased Penta Cycles ambulances for use in the State so as to reach even the most remote areas of the state.
“Health is another sector the governor is giving top priority. By the time you have more Specialist hospitals in all the senatorial districts in the State, you would have taken much of the pressure on the one in Jalingo and brought the health services closer to the people.
“This will invariably mean better service delivery, more effective management and efficient supervision and monitoring. Besides this, the governor is also upgrading our Primary Health sector to ensure that they are better positioned to provide the services they are designed for.
“We commend him for his humility and simplicity in his approach to governance and for his open door policy, inclusion and accommodation, which have endeared him to the people. Without mincing words, we would say that the governor has elevated governance to a higher pedestal in Taraba State.
“It is delightful how the governor is turning the nation’s economic challenges into huge blessings in Taraba State,” He stated.
